About

The person behind the lens.

Photographer based in London. Shooting since 1978.

Who I am

I'm Emil — a London-based photographer with over 40 years behind the lens. I like to shoot candid street moments, documentary, events, occasionally portraits and landscapes. I travel a lot so I'm trying to keep a camera close to catch moments that feel genuinely alive.

I'm lucky to live here, surrounded by a city that never stops moving. I tend to be observational, always looking for the frame within the frame.

How I got here

Photography found me before I found it.

I picked up my first camera long time ago when I was just a kid, not out of ambition to be a photographer but out of curiosity. I grew up in Romania. My first camera was a Certina made in east Germany. I'm shooting now mostly with Nikon and Canon cameras. I realized over the time that images could say things that I couldn't put them in words.

What began as a personal project, out of curiosity, became part of me. I don't do photography for a living, just occasional gigs.

How I shoot

01

Preparation

I'm documenting in advance the area where I'm planning to shoot. I'm preparing the camera and the lenses most appropriate for the shooting.

02

On the day

I'm trying to work quietly and efficiently. Whether it's a street shooting, or an event, I stay out of the way of the moment. Just when it matters I'm coming close to the frame.
